Velrez hydrocarbon resins are manufactured by polymerization of unsaturated monomers from petroleum feedstocks. The chemical nature of the products are classified as follow:

Hotmelt Adhesives

In EVA and metalocene based hot melt adhesives, Velrez aromatic, aliphatic and hydrogenated resins are formulated to boost adhesion. These type of hotmelt adhesives are used in the cardboard packaging, woodworking and upholstery and foam bonding industry. Aliphatic C5 resins are the main group of tackifiers as used in pressure sensitive hotmelt adhesives into labels and tapes. The tackfiers improve in quick stick and adhesion performance to a variety of substrates.

Printing ink

Low molecular weight thermoplastic cycloaliphatic / aromatic resins are used in printing ink. The resins have the properties of water repellence, excellent chemical stability over acid and alkali, good adhesive strength and low heat conduction. Due to its solubility in typical ink oils, either mineral or natural, and compatibility with alkyd and rosin can be used in pigment dispersion and as co-resin in ink gel varnish for heat-set, sheet-fed, and coldset inks.

Paints

Velrez resin can be used in a wide variety of paint applications as a binder or a varnish. The resins are soluble and mineral and vegetable oils, compatible with alkyd. Velrez resins enhance pigment wetting and promotes dispersibility, color development, gloss, improve flow, leveling, overcoat adhesion and film hardness. Depending on the type of paint and the properties needed, a Velrez resin of your choice may be recommended.

Rubber Compounding

Aromatic resins  are used as a plasticizer/ processing aid for faster mixing, milling and tubing of rubber compounds at a lower energy consumption. The resin reduces the viscosity and improved calendar behavior resulting in a smoother surface and more uniform thickness, It pmotes better pigment-, filler dispersion and mixing ability and improves bond formation and green strength or tack.

Membrane Roofing

Modified C9 resins or C5 resins are used in water proofing bitumen membranes to improve bonding to roofs. In premium self adhesive roofing membranes, the Velrez hydrocarbon resin are used in combination with bitumen, SBS and SIS block copolymers, naphthenic oil and filler. The self-adhesive compounds are tacky also at the low application temperature.

Asphalt

Velrez modified C9 aromatic resins are mixed in oil based clear synthetic binder formulations. Upon addition of a pigment and mixing with aggregates, colored pavements can be produced and applied on roads. Due to its polarity and wetting behaviour it provides excellent coloured pigment dispersion. The resin has good compatibility with EVA and SBS polymers.

Roadmarking

Velrez aliphatic hydrocarbon resins are the binder in thermoplastic road marking paints. The white paint contain amongst others aggregates, filler and glass beads, hold together with the higher molecular weight type C5 resins. Besides adhesion the resins also offer flexibility and toughness to the paint.
